Family-Friendly Activities in Santa Barbara

With summer just around the corner, we’re sure the kids (and you) can’t wait to get outside, soak up some sunshine and explore! And in Santa Barbara, there’s plenty of family-friendly activities at your disposal. Looking for inspiration? Spend Time at the Santa Barbara Zoo

There’s always something happening at The Santa Barbara Zoo. And that shouldn’t be a surprise, with the zoo being home to over 100 species (500+ animals) exhibited in open habitats! Visit the zoo and explore the exhibits any day, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Or, schedule a behind-the-scenes tour to get a closer look at the animals and some of the zookeepers’ everyday tasks. Plan your zoo trip on a Saturday or Sunday from 11 a.m. – 2p.m. and the kids can participate in one of the many Explorer Fundays crafts. Crafts include things like clothespin caterpillars, newspaper owls and gorilla handprints. What else can the family do? Take a ride on the Zoo Train, feed a giraffe or two or scale the Climbing Wall! Explore MOXI

For a different type of interactive experience, visit The Wolf Museum of Exploration + Innovation (MOXI). The museum is designed for families with kids of all ages and focuses on science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Kids can explore many interactive exhibits spread throughout the museum’s three floors. Learn about things like light, magnetism and sound through exciting games and experiments. MOXI is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 3-12. Wheel Fun Rentals

If you’re family enjoys bikes rides, take advantage of the many rentals available in town. Wheel Fun Rentals is well-known for its large selection of rental bikes. If you have little ones that can’t pedal, take a look at the Surrey. It can accommodate three adults and two small children in the front basket. If your gang is a bit older, rent a Cruiser bike for around town or a Mountain bike for rougher terrain. Not in the mood to pedal? Rent the Moke Electric Vehicle. With a top speed of 25 mph, this electric car is definitely a fun way to cruise around town!
