Your Guide to Trick-or-Treating in Santa Barbara

This October, Santa Barbara has all sorts of spooky fun in store for visiting families, including plenty of opportunities for trick-or-treat! Take a look at our guide of family-friendly Halloween happenings in Santa Barbara this October.

Boo at the Santa Barbara Zoo

The Santa Barbara Zoo’s annual Boo at the Zoo event is much more than just trick-or-treat. On Oct 18-20, visit the zoo for hay bale mazes, themed games, 75+ costumed characters, a monster dance party and, of course, a trick-or-treat trail. Kids are encouraged to dress up for this event and participate in the zoo’s costume parade. Tickets for the event are $20 for adults and $14 for children ages 2-12. For more details, visit the Santa Barbara Zoo’s official website.

Downtown Trick or Treat

For one of the best trick-or-treating experience in Santa Barbara, head Downtown on Oct 31 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. for the city’s annual Trick or Treat festivities. Participating stores, restaurants and galleries will be marked with balloons if they’re passing out treats. Kids must be dressed in costume and carry their own treat bag to participate. Santa Barbara’s Downtown Trick or Treat is free to attend and open to kids of all ages!

Candy Crawl & Games

Another fun community trick-or-treat event will be happening on Oct 31 from 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Goleta Valley Community Center. Kids donning their best Halloween attire will pick up a sticker card at the gazebo, then travel along Hollister Avenue. Both candy and stickers for the sticker card will be passed out along the way. After trick-or-treating return back to the Goleta Valley Community Center for games, a piñata and prizes. This event is free to attend and open to kids of all ages!

Other Family-Friendly Halloween Happenings

Aside from trick-or-treating, there are plenty of other Halloween events happening in the Santa Barbara area throughout October. Now through Oct 30, visit Lane Farms Pumpkin Patch for hayrides, farm animals, corn mazes and pumpkins. If you have older kids in the family, take them to Haunt at the Earl Warren Showgrounds for three equally terrifying haunted houses.
